THE PANEL
More Infos:
This project was executed at the School of Design at the PolyU Hong Kong. In this project the students were ask to design an indoor portable light for the following three categories:
Consumer experience oriented "Task Lighting", artistic approached "Deco Lighting" or a context driven "Set of Lightings".
I decided to create a task light for a domestic surrounding, which can be used in various working situations. After generating 10 ideas in a brainstorming session I choosed 2 ideas, which seemed to have the most potential for further development. I worked on the details of these 2 ideas and built 1:1 mock-ups, which helped me to chose 1 idea for finalization. The final concept is called "The Panel", my approach of creating a light with the highest possible degree of adjustability.
The prototype for the final product is true to scale and fully functional. Both panels of the lampshade are independently rotatable around 135°. The centrepiece is a crucial part of the whole lamp and enables the precise adjustment of the lamp. The horizontal rail is rotatable around 360° (around x and z axis) without loosening any bolt and entangle the cord. Furthermore the position of the lamp is freely adjustable on the horizontal and vertical axis, which allows useing the lamp on a working height from 0cm to 120cm.
